Exploring CLT

Wednesday, Aug 13:

Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens had another evening with free admission.  My dad had really liked it last time and was looking forward to going again.

Since we had seen some of everything last time in a quick whirlwind tour, we got to take our time a bit more on this visit.

Thursday, Aug 14:

At Blackstone, after not doing that well in recent matches, I wanted to get back to some practice.

- I started with G19Cs with optics, to see if they were still shooting ok

- Then I switched back to the CZP10C, whose grip did feel better

... lessons were driving the reticle back to the target instead of casually riding the recoil, and not overrgripping with my left hand instinctively when pulling the trigger to avoid low right hits

Glute and pec PT V2 in 23:46, HDT 31.2.2 (legs) in 21:21 for PT using 40-45#SBs and a 1 mile AFAP ruck in 12:36 with 30# and MACV1s.  Finished with a 2:30 high plank with 30#R.

Friday, Aug 15:

For dinner, my parents and I took a long time trying to get a fire started, so that we could grill some salmon and chicken.

18A "Dip Abs" in 25:34, Glute and pec PT v1 in 25:31, then 2:30 45#SB palmed OH hold

Saturday, Aug 16:

Met up with KW at Coleman's to do some LR practice.

I started at the pistol arcade, dumping 450 rounds shooting on steel at different distances, doing Scott's drill, doing multiple target transitions, practicing prone straight-on as well as rolled 90 degrees (the latter worked better, since elevation is much more wobbly on bent elbows straight-on), and shooting one-handed (leaning back to reduce arm strain and pulling out slack before trigger squeezing helps, along with the usual body blading, thumb up, and canting tricks).

I zeroed the MDT HNT in 6.5CM, then did build and break drills prone and modified prone and modified kneeling, dry, to save ammo.

Once KW arrived, we went to the KD range and did some live drills on a 400yd target from different positions.  He showed me some tricks like holding the optic for stability, lowering my cheek weld for less input on the gun, reducing trigger weight, and loosening bipod cant settings so that I don't struggle as much getting level.

On the way out, I played around at a 2-gun bay, practicing the close threat drill and doing a little USPSA-style moving and shooting.

Sunday, Aug 17:

In the morning, I went to the Museum of Optical Illusions with my parents.  We didn't go into the museum, but there was a little pop-up exhibit outside, to show people an example of one of the illusions.

There was a security robot roaming in the alley behind the museum.  My mom enjoyed that as much as she did the pop-up exhibit!

We walked around uptown a little bit.

And then we drove to Metalmorphosis, which my dad hadn't seen before.  Unfortunately, it wasn't moving like it was last time in 2018.

HDT 31.1.2 (core) in 29:52, then 16:28 of arm strengtheners

Monday, Aug 18:

Easy 4 mile ruck in 1:22:57 to stay adapted to rucking before GBF Op 14ers without overdoing anything, using a 30#R and MACV1s
