It's kind of ironic that the pandemic is when I've actually been able to spend more time with my family from other states.
July 22:
A little tennis with my dad and sister. Not good at it, but I sure did sweat a lot!
0.5 warmup ruck to a pond near my parents' house, where I did HDT 19.4.1 (Arms) with 25 min of PT and then a mile of front-rucking with 30# in 21:16, and then HDT 19.4.2 (Core) with 31 min of PT and then a mile in 12:44 with ruck shuffling with 30#. I needed those past few rest days, since the CP was brutal, and my body was all wonky. I did get some mosquito bites during the PT, unfortunately, but the view was nice and different.
Friday, Jul 24:
That evening, I went on a 4 mi ruck around the neighborhood with my dad, with 30# in the Rucker and MACV1s, in 1:18:16.
Saturday, Jul 25:
We made many fun discoveries along the way, too.
Note: Mesh water bottle pockets make for a great sea shell holder! The MACV1s were great for draining as usual, although I did start to feel hotspots in the last mile (also as somewhat usual for me right before the 6 mile mark in these shoes).
With that challenge, PATHFINDER Advanced was locked in. That was tough. The 12 miler took some grit, but I surprised myself by completing it with a decent buffer. That 20 miler was very hard. The push to get double miles was hard with all of the volume that it required. I was proud of the accomplishment, and made a lot of great memories along the way to the red patch.
I even got a shout-out from Group 17, which adopted me for the round even though I was officially in a different group as I rotated to learn from other CAs.
In the evening, we met up with my sister and her boyfriend for a walk/ruck on the Cooper River Bridge, for 4 miles in 1:46:56.

(Me and Starfish)
It's funny to see the difference between my sister's reaction to the beached starfish, vs my own. You can tell that she's the nurse in the family.
After that, I did HDT 19.4.3 (Legs) with 25 min of PT and 1 mi of ruck OH with 30# in 32:42. It was a sweaty workout!
I should've warmed up my shoulders beforehand, because I think it was during this 1 mi of OH that I tore or strained something in my left shoulder. You take that kind of thing for granted until your one and only left shoulder gets damaged.
I walked around a little bit with my dad downtown in the evening. We recounted different memories along the way, like of Battery Park where I took my first steps, The Blind Tiger where I had a pre-Tough dinner with my rucking buddies before I DNSed and shadowed, The Market, Rainbow Row, an office building where my mom worked for less than a week, the office of an attorney who helped my parents with their application for citizenship, and the Dock Street Theater where my elementary and middle school used to walk us for field trips.
Here are some old pictures from our family photo albums:
Tuesday, Jul 28:
Yoga with Adriene - for Suffering. My left shoulder and left foot are jacked up, and my back is wonky as a result of the imbalances. Did the HDT 19.5.CP BW AMRAP, and then ran 5K in 24:51.
Wednesday, Jul 29:
HDT 19.5.1 (Core) with 38 min of PT, then 1 mi coupon ruck with 30# ruck and 60# SB. Left shoulder is still a little strained. Left knee, too.
Saturday, Aug 1:
PATHFINDER Class 025 started today. Last night, people started introducing themselves and getting amped up about the program. They mentioned where they were from, and someone from the lowcountry asked if anyone was from around there. A few messages later, and we had plans to meet up at 5:45am the next morning for a 6 mile Beach Ruck! It was my favorite challenge last class, and I was still in town, so might as well do it again! Like I mentioned earlier, the sunrise is different every morning.
6.0 in 1:53:21, 18:53 average. 30#. Even the Lifer did it with 30#, and was awesome. I made a new friend, too!
That evening, I logged my first workout for the class with HDT 19.5.3 (Arms) with 52 min of PT and a 1 mi coupon ruck with a 30# ruck and 60#SB in 20:39.
Sunday, Aug 2:
TA PT test with 26 HRPU, 43 BSU, 10 SC@60#.
Then HDT 19.6.CP 20 min AMRAP with 30# SB and 30# R. Brutal in the closed garage heat. I did catch up on lots of sleep yesterday.
Wednesday, Aug 5:
Yoga with Adriene - Lower BAck Love after work, since my lower back is jacked up from the CP.
Did 4 miles in 1:07:26 in my MACV1s with 30#, with a blister forming on my left heel.
Thursday, Aug 6:
HDT 19.6.1 (Legs) with 33 min of PT and 1 mi coupon ruck with 40#R and 30# SB. The MACV1s may be giving me blisters because of the insole that I added. Did lots of Theradrilling afterwards, and it felt great.
